XLRATOR MEDIA’S STORM SURFERS 3D TAKES 'MOST OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN A DOCUMENTARY' AT THE INTERNATIONAL 3D AWARDS
LOS ANGELES (February 6, 2013) – XLrator Media’s STORM SURFERS 3D received “The Most Outstanding Achievement in a Documentary” award at the Third Annual International 3D Awards Wednesday at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Sponsored by the International 3D Society, the awards ceremony honored technological advancements in stereoscopic medium: cinema, television, portable devices, special venue, themed attractions, video games, computers and other media. Nominees in the documentary category included Air Racers: 3D (IMAX), the James Cameron-produced Cirque Du Soleil: Worlds Away, Katy Perry: Party of Me, and To the Arctic 3D. STORM SURFERS 3D premiered at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival to rave reviews. Directed by Christopher Nelius and Julian McMillan, XLrator Media will release the film this summer.
“Tonight’s award celebrates the groundbreaking technology that makes STORM SURFERS 3D a thrilling and immersive cinematic adventure,” said XLrator Media CEO Barry Gordon. “It enables audiences to experience the awesome adrenaline rush of big-wave surfing like never before…by putting them inside the barrel of the wave.”
“STORM SURFERS 3D has been a labor of love,” said Director Christopher Nelius. “I am honored that my peers in the industry recognized all the hard work put into this film to make it a one-of-a-kind documentary featuring two of surfing’s legendary athletes.”
As we meet best friends and professional surfing legends Tom Carroll and Ross Clarke-Jones, middle age is upon them and their children are getting older - but they can’t stop exploring the globe for that elusive rush of adrenaline and thrill of danger, in search of the ultimate wave. The film follows Tom, Ross and surf forecaster Ben Matson’s adventures as they track and chase giant storms across the Great Southern Ocean, braving gigantic waves, freezing conditions and near-death experiences. Using state-of-the-art 3D technology and narrated by Academy-Award nominee Toni Collette, Directors Christopher Nelius and Justin McMillan's STORM SURFERS 3D is a visually stunning and inspiring cinematic adventure unlike any other 3D experience captured on film.
STORM SURFERS 3D is produced by Marcus Gillezeau and Ellenor Cox and executive produced by Alaric McAusland, Anthos Simon and Philipp Manderla. The film was financed through Screen Australia, Screen NSW, Deluxe, Red Bull Media House and Fulcrum Media Finance and produced by 6ixty Foot Films in association with Firelight Productions.
