LOS ANGELES (November 7, 2016) – Following its success with the releases of Queen Mimi and It’s So Easy And Other Lies earlier this year, XLrator Media announced the acquisition of four new documentaries that will be released globally on its “LIFEFRAME” label: BURLESQUE: HEART OF THE GLITTER TRIBE, “WHO THE F#@K IS THAT GUY?” THE FABULOUS JOURNEY OF MICHAEL ALAGO, SMASH: MOTORIZED MAYHEM and TREE MAN.

BURLESQUE: HEART OF THE GLITTER TRIBE

Directed by Jon Manning

Produced by Julie Livingston and Jon Manning

Release date: Spring 2017

XLrator Media will co-release with Rugged Entertainment

Discover the passion and personalities at the heart of today’s new wave of burlesque. On stage and in candid conversation, twelve of today’s hottest performers reveal the naked truth about an exotic world where artifice is a route to authenticity and pretending to be someone else is the ultimate journey to become yourself. These burlesquers put it all on the line in performances that are sexy, funny, elegant and outrageous – and they bare more than just their bodies as they discuss their artistic vision, their struggles, the misconceptions that infuriate them, and the strong community that sustains them.

“WHO THE F#@K IS THAT GUY?” THE FABULOUS JOURNEY OF MICHAEL ALAGO

Directed by Drew Stone

Produced by Michael Alex and Drew Stone

Release date: Summer 2017

XLrator Media will co-release with Rugged Entertainment

Discover the incredible life of Michael Alago, a gay Puerto Rican kid from Brooklyn who went on to shape and reinvent the world’s musical landscape – first as a 19-year-old talent booker at the legendary Ritz nightclub in New York City and then as a 24-year-old A&R exec who signed Metallica, White Zombie and worked with other notable artists including Nina Simone, John Lydon and Cyndi Lauper. The film tells the tender, loving and sometimes self-destructive story of a man who “just loved music.” He had the passion to bring it to the world on his terms and lived to talk about it. Barely.

SMASH: MOTORIZED MAYHEM

Directed by Kevin Burroughs and narrated by W. Earl Brown

Produced by Kevin Burroughs and Peter Spirer

Release date: Spring 2017

XLrator Media will co-release with Rugged Entertainment

In a small town, tucked deep in rural Florida, a group of blue-collar folks gather to participate in a bi-annual wild event, Figure-8 School Bus Racing. Nineteen full-size school buses pack a puny 3/8-mile figure-8 track and race twenty harrowing laps to crown a victor. The story follows three drivers and the track promoter during a three-week intensive push to prepare for race night. Their knowledge of mechanics and strong work ethic rival the best in any automotive field. This rousing and funny film clearly demonstrates that real life is more entertaining than any fiction.

TREE MAN

Directed and Produced by Jon Reiner and Brad Rothschild

Release Date: December 6, 2016

Hundreds of Christmas tree sellers from across North America journey to the streets of New York City to ply their trade. Having left homes and families behind, they endure the adversity of a migrant's survival, living out of their cars and vans. François, a "Tree Man" and father of three from Québec, returns to the same Manhattan street corner every year to deliver the magic of the season. The film explores François' journey and the relationships that sustain him. While he may sell trees for a living, it is his role as the neighborhood Tree Man that draws the community closer together and gives meaning to his grueling month far from home.

“This is a golden age of documentary filmmaking, and our goal is to make LIFEFRAME the pre-eminent curated releasing label for documentaries around the world. Our diverse and growing slate, embodied by these four remarkable films, will appeal to global audiences with their larger-than-life personalities, fascinating true stories and positive and inspiring messages in these turbulent times,” said XLrator Media CEO Barry Gordon.

Previous LIFEFRAME releases include Queen Mimi, It’s So Easy and Other Lies and Mateo. Upcoming 2017 releases which have been previously announced include Spirit Game: Pride of a Nation, Legend of 420, She Makes Comics, Man in the Camo Jacket, Cosplay and the ”Origins” TV series.
