LOS ANGELES (February 6, 2015) – XLrator Media (Jimi: All is By My Side, The Machine) has announced a three-picture production slate of action-thrillers with RNR Entertainment, the new production shingle from producers Rick Benattar (Real Steel, Ironclad, Shoot ‘Em Up), Nigel Thomas (Jimi: All Is By My Side, The Wind That Shakes the Barley) and Robert Menzies (House At The End Of The Street), which it will co-produce and distribute worldwide.

The global production and distribution pact follows on the heels of their successful North American partnership on Ironclad and sequel Ironclad: Battle For Blood (produced by Benattar) and Jimi: All is By My Side (produced by Thomas), which XLrator Media released in North America. The new co-production partnership follows XLrator Media’s recently announced production slate of three sci-fi thrillers with the prolific indie production company New Artists Alliance.

“As platforms like Netflix, Amazon, iTunes and other new ‘pure-play’ OTT and traditional TV networks expand globally, XLrator Media is building out its global content business through the acquisition of worldwide rights as well as co-producing films for which it will control all rights,” said XLrator Media CEO Barry Gordon.

“Moving into global production and distribution will allow us to reverse engineer high-quality content at efficient budgets for the new multi-platform universe. It also allows us to build a new, streamlined finance/production/distribution model that empowers independent producers and financiers to mutually develop content based on current market trends and the needs of the global digital content landscape which is poised to grow rapidly over the next few years,” said Gordon.

Rick Benattar has produced or executive produced Real Steel, Shoot ‘Em Up, Ironclad, Ironclad: Battle For Blood, Lost Boys: The Tribe and Sweetwater. Nigel Thomas, founder of Matador Pictures, has produced or executive produced over 60 films, including Ken Loach’s The Wind That Shakes the Barley (Palme d’Or winner at the Cannes Film Festival), Killing Bono, Wild Target, the Outpost trilogy, The Numbers Station and Jimi: All Is By Side.

“Nigel, Robert and I are thrilled to partner with an innovative distribution leader such as XLrator Media to create a new paradigm for creating and distributing films around the world,” said Rick Benattar. “We can now concentrate on making great action-thrillers for the worldwide market while not having to pre-sell them, and we can participate financially and creatively as part of the distribution team.”

The first film in the three-picture slate is PARADOX, written and directed by Michael Hurst (Femme Fatales, Hard Wired, Pumpkinhead: Blood Feud), which begins production in the Spring for 2016 release. In the film, a group of young scientists are working on a secret project that may allow them to travel ahead in time. They test it by sending one of their own ahead one hour.  He returns pleading with them to shut it down, explaining that within that hour, they will all die. The project was brought to the company by Jorge Saralegui who will co-produce.

One of the fastest-growing independent film distribution companies in North America since its creation in 2010, XLrator Media, LLC (XLratorMedia.com) will release 25 films in 2015. Its recent releases include Academy Award-winner John Ridley’s JIMI: ALL IS BY MY SIDE starring Andre Benjamin as rock legend Jimi Hendrix and SXSW hits HOUSEBOUND and THE MULE. XLrator Media is also the home of the acclaimed MACABRE and TURBO genre film labels. The company previously released such diverse films as THE MACHINE, CBGB, AMERICAN MARY, STORM SURFERS 3D, BANSHEE CHAPTER and IRONCLAD: BATTLE FOR BLOOD.
